bopbop

Browser MCP for any agent

Your AI agent, in your real Chrome.

bopbop gives Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and any MCP client your browser, with your sign-ins. It works in its own tab group and reads pages as text, not screenshots: 72% fewer tokens and 3.5× faster than Claude in Chrome.

Free and open source · Local only, no cloud · GitHub

A login in two calls

Open a page and you get the page. Do several things and you get back what happened.

> navigate /login-form/
  textbox "Username" [e1]
  textbox "Password" [e2]
checkbox "Keep me signed in" [e3]
  button "Sign in" [e4] disabled

> act type e1 "bench_user" · type e2 "S3cure!pass#42" · click e4
  1. type e1 "bench_user" ✓
  2. type e2 "S3cure!pass#42" ✓
  3. click e4 ✓
  # Welcome back
You are signed in as bench_user.

Text, not screenshots

Pages come back as a short outline with refs like e12. Tables come back as JSON. The agent reads; it does not squint at pixels.

Many steps, one call

One act call types, clicks and waits, then returns only what changed. Fewer round trips, fewer tokens.

Honest results

If a click changes nothing, bopbop tries the keyboard once and then says ⚠ no effect, not ✓.

Your tabs stay yours

The agent works in its own named tab group and never takes your active tab or window.

The numbers

16 hard pages (iframes, shadow DOM, native dialogs, popups, uploads, a prompt-injection trap). Claude Sonnet 5.5, 2 runs each. The server checks success, not the agent.

Install

  1. Add the extension to Chrome

It connects your browser to the bopbop server on your computer. Edge, Brave and Chromium work too.

    Add to Chrome
  2. Add bopbop to your agent

    Claude Code
claude mcp add -s user bopbop -- npx -y bopbop
    Codex
codex mcp add bopbop -- npx -y bopbop

Cursor and other MCP clients: JSON config. Needs Node.js 24 or later.

  3. Ask for something in your browser

Use bopbop. Open example.com and tell me the heading.

A tab opens in the agent's own tab group. The extension pairs with the server by itself: nothing to paste.

Questions

Does my data leave my computer?

No. The extension talks only to the bopbop server on 127.0.0.1. No analytics, no accounts, no cloud. Your agent sees the pages it opens, as with any browser tool.

Will the agent touch my tabs?

No. It opens its own tabs, in its own tab group, without stealing focus. A popup its click opens joins the group; a tab you open stays yours. When the session ends, its untouched tabs close.

Which agents work?

Any MCP client: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode and others. Each session gets its own tab group, so several agents can work in one Chrome.

Which browsers?

Chrome 125 or later, and Chromium-based browsers that install Web Store extensions: Edge, Brave, Chromium. macOS, Linux and Windows.

Can it buy things or post for me?

It does what your agent asks. To block it, start the server with BBM_GUARD=shop-social: Buy now, checkout and Post buttons are then blocked in the browser itself. BBM_ALLOW limits it to the sites you list.

What does it cost?

Nothing. bopbop is open source (MIT).
